Ferruccio Laviani was born in Cremona, Italy in 1960. He received his diploma from the "Politecnico di Design" of Milan in 1984 and graduated with a degree in the profession architecture in 1986.
From 1986 to 1991 Laviani was a member of the De Lucchi studio, designing for different companies, among these: Mandarina Duck, Memphis, Olivetti and Swatch. He was in charge of the historical section of the Groninger Museum, Holland together with Alessandro Mendini.
Ferruccio Laviani participated in the "12 new Memphis" and "Memphis 87" collections and was one of the founders of the Solid group and designed part of the collection.
From 1991 to present he curates the artistic direction of Kartell and designs their stands at: the Salone del Mobile Milan, ICFF New York, the sales outlets (among these: Milan 1997, New York 1998, Copenhagen 2000, New York 2003, Tokio 2004) the corners, the shops in the world. He contributes to the creation of the "Kartell Office" concept 1999 in which he is in charge of the graphics project of the catalogue and he creates the "Max" table (1998). He designed and realized the concept of the Kartell Business Museum 1999. He is in charge of setting up events and shows such as the presentation of the book "Kartell 150 items, 150 artworks" at the Triennale of Milan. He created the lights "Fly and Easy" (2002), "Take" (2003), "Bourgie" (2004).
Since 1992 he collaborates with Foscarini Murano designing for them the floor lights "Orbital" (1992) and "Dolmen" (1996), the wall light "Bit" (1993), the suspension light "Supernova" (2001), the table light "Lenin" (2001), "Teorema" (2005).
Since 1992 he has also designed for Emmemobili, T70, Halifax, Mixel, Fontana Arte, De Padova, Flos and Molteni & C.
From 1997 until today he continues to collaborate with Cosmit having fit out cultural exhibitions dedicated to Gio Ponti and Vico Magistretti.
From 2001 to present he starts his collaboration with Dolce&Gabbana creating and designing for them: the concept of the corners for the Dolce&Gabbana line; the interior of the new headquarters in Milan, Via Goldoni and especially: the show room, the offices, the sales area, the sales entertaiment area, restaurant, private area.
Furthermore Ferruccio Laviani lectured at the Domus Academy and the Polytecnicum in Milan.
