The Lilium Garden Lounge Chair was designed by BIG the Bjarke Ingels Group for the brand Skagerak.
Based in Copenhagen, BIG are a team of architects and designers who specialise in strong conceptual pieces. The Lilium range takes its cue from the curved shapes and proportions of lily pads. Looking at the Lilium Garden Lounge Chair, you can see this inspiration reflected in both the chair's rounded edges and its wide, welcoming proportions.
Measuring 74cm in height and 62cm in width, the chair flexes subtly under the sitter's weight, creating a pleasantly springy impression which again ties in with the key inspiration. The backrest and seat are made from curved slats of teak, a type of hardwood which is especially apt for outdoors use. These sit upon a stainless steel base which is slender yet deceptively strong and finished with rubber lugs which offer non-abrasive contact with a variety of outdoor surfaces, whether that's crazy paving or decking.
