The Rey Coffee Table has been created by HAY for the brand HAY. The table is a take on an original chair design created by the late Swiss industrial designer Bruno Rey in 1971. When the original design was debuted decades ago as a chair known as the 3300, it went on to become the country's most commercially successful and iconic chair. What stood out about it was no screws metal to wood joinery which was new back then. The legs were joined to the seat of the chair using a bonded aluminium console that was handmade before aluminium pressure die casting was introduced. It enabled large-scale, precise production which spurred the production of other items in the series like the Rey Coffee Table.Made of chipboard with beech veneer and solid beech, it has a round tabletop whose edges just touch the tops of the legs that are made of slats that are placed at an angle. The screw-less design and joining create the illusion of a tabletop that floats above the frame.
The Rey Coffee Table has a height of 32cm and a diameter of 66.5cm. It is available in amber brown, deep blue, slate blue, deep black and soft mint.
