The Cover Chair was designed by Thomas Bentzen for the brand Muuto.

Copenhagen-based Thomas Bentzen is the head designer of Muuto, and his work exemplifies the Scandinavian principles of simplicity and rationality. Principles which are very much apparent in this piece, which offers a refreshing modernist slant on the humble wooden chair.

Measuring 45.5cm in height and 53.6cm in width, the Cover Chair has legs of solid wood supporting a bentwood top. The seat is slightly curved for comfort, and the ends of the curving backrest fold around the tops of the long, slanting rear legs, giving the whole piece an eye-catching oblique silhouette. But, while the look of the piece is sharply contemporary, the fact that there are no screw heads visible adds to its air of seamless traditional craftsmanship. Weighing just 4.5kg, the Cover Chair is lightweight and portable, and it can be stacked away, too, making it a practical addition to kitchens and cafes alike. It's available in an oak veneer with a subtly patterned grain or a range of monochrome lacquer finishes that fit with a whole host of interior colour schemes.
