5075 Salt Shaker

The 5075 Salt Cellar was designed by Ettore Sottsass for Italian homeware label Alessi.

A pioneering forefathers of modern design, Sottsass was born in Austria-Hungary in 1917 and enjoyed a highly successful career spanning the later twentieth century. Educated at the Politecnico di Torino in Turin, Sottsass obtained a degree in architecture prior to serving in the Italian military in World War II; he went on to work in design in the 1950s. Some of his famous pieces include altar-like ceramic sculptures relating to his travels in the United States and India, and these are innovative homeware items that influenced the upcoming generation of designers.

The 5075 Salt Cellar is a stylish way to store your salt and keep it close at hand on the dining table or kitchen counter ready for dinner. The main body of the salt cellar comprises crystal glass, with a stainless steel lid and shaker component at the top that dispenses a fine shower of salt with each shake. The piece stands at 10cm tall, 3.5cm in diameter and has a fitting capacity of 0.4 litres.
